Reduced Coverage on Apple App Store

On September 2nd, Apple made a change that limited the rankings available in each app category from 1,500 to 200. This change is impacting the entire industry, including Apptopia.

Rank is a key input into our models which generate estimates for Downloads, IAP Revenue, and Usage. As a result, starting on September 2nd you should expect to see less apps per category with performance estimates.

However, it's important to note that the top 10,000 apps per country should not be impacted by this change in any way.

We are actively looking for ways to increase our visibility into Rank beyond 200 per category / country, but until a solution is found, please continue to expect reduced coverage starting from September 2nd.

How This Affects You

We do not expect this change to impact most of our customers given that the vast majority of app activity is happening within the top 10,000 apps in each country. This portion of the market is unaffected.

This is impacting iOS / Apple only and will not affect Google Play apps or their estimates. No historical data is, or will be impacted by this change.

We expect this change to mostly impact clients who are heavily focused on the long tail of the app ecosystem.

What’s Next?

We are investing heavily into researching other ways to gain deeper visibility and plan to follow up with all of you as soon as we have more information.

We are here to answer any questions you may have about how this impacts your current workflow with Apptopia, so please do not hesitate to reach out directly via

We will continue to share updates as we have them.
